Lurking deep within the humid lowland forests of the Phillipine islands, this loveable monster is a carnivorous curiosity. Those 'cups' collect and hold pockets of water which trap unlucky insects. The nutrients generated by their rotting corpses fuel the plant. Very macabre.
Considered one of the most reliable Nepenthes for home cultivation, this vigorous vine is a good option for beginners. They are fans of humidity, however. In dry air they will soldier-on, but may refuse to produce their famous 'cups'. Naturally humid spaces like a bright kitchen or bathroom is an ideal spot, or keep them in trays of damp moss. This not only looks the part, the evaporating moisture from the moss will enhance the humidity around the plant.
Do not allow the substrate to dry out: aim to keep the soil damp, but not wet. Test regularly with your finger: the soil should feel cool and moist at all times.
Place this plant in a location where it will receive bright indirect light. An East or West-facing window is ideal.
No known toxic effects to cats, dogs, other pets or humans.
